COL Robert (Bob) Dennis Bruns, 74, of Garden Ridge, TX, passed away on 6 Dec 2020. Bob graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Institution Management and attended graduate school at the University of Maryland where he earned a Master of Science degree in Foods/Institution Administration.
Bob entered the Army in 1968 as a dietetic intern at Walter Reed General Hospital and served 30 years. His assignments included Washington, Ft. Wainwright, Ft. Carson, Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, Tripler Army Medical Center, Health Services Command (later MEDCOM) and Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. Bob was recognized throughout his military career with many awards and medals including the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Service Medal with 4 Oak Leaf Clusters and the Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
Following retirement from the Army, Bob worked for the Texas Department of Aging and Disability as a Nutritionist Surveyor for Medicare accredited care facilities for 15 years. COL Bruns is survived by his wife, Karol, of 52 years, his son, Jay and wife, Elizabeth, daughter Stacie and husband Ron, daughter Caryn, seven grandchildren and his sister Mary Bruns. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Jay
and Evelyn Bruns.
Visitation will be at Schertz Funeral Home on December 17 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials or donations be directed to Hope Hospice, Meals on Wheels, Grace Place or the charity of your choice. A private ceremony for the immediate family will be at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery on December 18.
